Mike Hermanson, founder

Mike lives in Louisville, KY with his wife and two kids. He went to college for nursing but after doing that for 12 years, he started developing a passion for woodworking. His dad taught woodshop for a high school in Michigan before he retired, so Mike had a wealth of knowledge to tap into to help him start Home and Garden Barrels.

The first products Mike made were rain barrels and planters. He then started making furniture for inside the house and also things to go on people’s patios or decks. After a few months, Mike saw potential to make this his main job. He left his full-time job in April 2021 and started doing nursing on an as-needed basis just in case he needed to fall back on it in the future.

Now he is full steam ahead with Home and Garden Barrels and enjoys working for himself. It’s always rewarding to see a customer’s face light up when they come to pick up what they ordered!
